Husband and wife escape Bargersville house fire; space heater blamed

The home had $150,000 in damage, but everyone was able to get out safely.

BARGERSVILLE, Ind. — A Bargersville husband and wife escaped an early morning fire on Dec. 15.

According to the fire department, they were called to the home around 5:25 a.m. on Eastview Drive. 

The homeowner said he awoke to the smoke detectors going off. When he opened the bedroom door, there was thick smoke and intense heat.

The couple was able to crawl out the bedroom window to escape. The couple's dogs were also able to get out.

There were no injuries, but the fire caused around $150,000 in damages.

The cause of the fire has been isolated to a kerosene space heater and the fire department said the working smoke detectors were key in getting the couple out safely.
