INDIANAPOLIS — The Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash will celebrate 22 years on Thanksgiving Day in Broad Ripple by helping make sure those experiencing homelessness have something to eat.
People have the option of doing the 4.5-mile or 2.45-mile course. There is also a virtual race option for those not able to attend in person.
All of the proceeds will help Wheeler Mission serve those experiencing homelessness.
The organization is hoping the Drumstick Dash will help raise $100,000. At the time of this article's publishing, Wheeler Mission is a more than halfway to that goal. If you would like to donate, click here.
Aside from donating, event officials are asking the community for volunteers.
On race day, the organization needs volunteers to answer questions, cheer on runners, hand out food and distribute packets.
Specific openings include:
- Ask me's (15 needed, 1 filled)
- Finish line (10 needed, 3 filled)
- Start line (25 needed, 5 filled)
- Food court (25 needed, 10 filled)
- Prize tent (1 needed, 0 filled)
- Packet pickup (20 needed, 10 filled)
There are also indoor positions available that end after cleanup.
If you're unable to help on race day, you can still help by volunteering during the expo the day before.
Event officials said they need volunteers to help with bibs, goody bags, shirts and more.
Specific openings include:
- Ask me's (3 p.m.-6 p.m.)
- Bib assignment and goody bags (5 p.m.-7 p.m.)
- Race shirts (5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.)
