Hoosier Burn Camp welcomes 55 young burn survivors for week of fun and healing

In its 26th year, Hoosier Burn Camp is held at Camp Tecumseh in Carroll County.

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. — This week, 55 young burn survivors from across Indiana are enjoying life-changing experiences at Hoosier Burn Camp.

In its 26th year, Hoosier Burn Camp is held at Camp Tecumseh in Carroll County.

The young campers have all endured the physical and emotional trauma of a severe burn injury.

But at camp, kids get to be kids and learn to be comfortable and confident in their own skin. They get to enjoy arts, crafts, swimming and outdoor adventures.

Plus, Hoosier Burn Camp is staffed entirely by volunteers, many of whom are firefighters, first responders or adult burn survivors themselves.

It's a week of healing and building lasting friendships in a traditional summer camp environment.

"So the things we're learning are how to build a fire, how to keep a fire going, how to tie knots, and how to heal injuries if you ever come upon one," camper and burn survivor Scarlett Bryant said.

Hoosier Burn Camp is fueled by donations — and you can help.

There's a fundraiser Friday, June 28 in Johnson County called "Burn the Cork," with live music, food, drinks and prizes.

Proceeds from the evening benefit Hoosier Burn Camp and youth charities.
