Here's how you can support Bargersville Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser as he fights cancer

The community is showing its support for Chief Funkhouser with an online fundraiser.

BARGERSVILLE, Ind. — The Bargersville community is rallying right now to support Bargersville Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser, who is recovering from a brain tumor.

The department is selling T-shirts and bracelets with a creative and catchy title playing off the chief's name — "Funk Cancer."

Doctors discovered the brain tumor after Funkhouser had a sudden seizure.

Last week, he had surgery to remove it at Franciscan Health and doctors are optimistic the chief will make a full recovery. As he goes through rehab, this fundraiser will help him and his family.

Bargersville Deputy Fire Chief Mike Pruitt said they've sold more than 300 T-shirts so far to people all over the state.

"He's involved in so many different things, everything from the fire department to teaching to doing things with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. He's also the Whiteland fire chief, oversees things for them," Pruitt said. "So when you're in touch with that many people in this world, that support pours in immediately and that's exactly what's happened."

The fundraiser goes until midnight on Sept. 30. You can help by clicking here
