INDIANAPOLIS — A resident at the troubled Irvington Lofts Apartments tells 13News heat has been restored to the property.
For weeks we've been telling you about the struggle at those apartments. They lost power and heat and some residents had to live in hotels.
Some tenants at Irvington Lofts had been using space heaters, provided by facility management, to keep warm.
On Monday, the power was on and the hallways were heated but not the apartment units. The apartment management company now says heat was restored Tuesday afternoon.
The Marion County Public Health Department said their inspector confirmed that heat has been restored on Tuesday. On Nov. 17, 13News contacted the health department, who said at the time it was the first time they had heard about the problem at Irvington Lofts. They sent someone to do an inspection and subsequently ordered property to get the heat back on within 48 hours.
Mark III Management's president, Chuck Pechette, told 13News last week it was a complicated system and that had caused delays. Each unit controls one floor. He said there have been issues with the heating and cooling system since late winter or early spring and that repairs were made but they didn’t fix the entire problem. He said the owner hired a contractor to replace those three rooftop systems for $250,000.
He said they will also be replacing the systems in the second building after the first building is done, spending a total of $500,000 to fix the system in both buildings.
