Greenwood police officers donate toys to 4-year-old theft victim

After losing her toys in a home break-in, a 4-year-old girl is on the receiving end of the Greenwood community's generosity.

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WTHR) — After her family's home was broken into earlier this month, 4-year-old Evelyn was out of some very beloved toys, including the popular Shopkins.

Officer Calvert responded to that break-in call on Feb. 2. Seeing how upset Evelyn was about losing her toys, he decided to ask coworkers and friends if they would donate some Shopkins to replace Evelyn's stolen ones. Fellow officers and the community not only donated Shopkins, but so much more.

Calvert received cash donations as well, so Calvert and fellow Officer Tompkins went shopping for new toys to give to Evelyn. They delivered the goods to the 4-year-old Wednesday, just in time for Evelyn's birthday.

The police department posted about the day on Facebook, and Evelyn's mom, Rachael Clement, said her daughter had "so much fun" Wednesday night playing with her gifts.
