GREENWOOD, Ind. — One person is dead after an apartment fire in Greenwood Tuesday afternoon.
A Greenwood Fire Department spokesperson said the blaze at Cambridge Square Apartments, off of County Line Road just east of Madison Avenue, was reported at 4:47 p.m.
A caller told dispatchers they were in a smoke-filled hallway and could not reach the occupant of one of the apartments.
When firefighters arrived, they entered the apartment and found a person inside. The victim was taken to an Indianapolis hospital where they were pronounced deceased, according to the spokesperson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Greenwood authorities and the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office.
