1 dead in Greenwood apartment fire

The fire at Cambridge Square Apartments was reported just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

GREENWOOD, Ind. — One person is dead after an apartment fire in Greenwood Tuesday afternoon.

A Greenwood Fire Department spokesperson said the blaze at Cambridge Square Apartments in the 400 block of Southbridge Drive, near County Line Road and Madison Avenue, was reported around 4:45 p.m. Oct. 22.

A caller told dispatchers they were in a smoke-filled hallway and could not reach the occupant of one of the apartments.

When firefighters arrived, they entered the apartment and found a person inside. The victim was taken to an Indianapolis hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to the spokesperson.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Greenwood authorities and the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office.
