Greenwood business hosting fireworks display this year

Tilson HR will host the "Salute to America" fireworks show Sunday, July 5 at 10 p.m., and everyone is encouraged to watch the display from their homes.

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Johnson County residents will be able to enjoy a fireworks display from the safety of their own homes this year.

Tilson HR will host the "Salute to America" fireworks show Sunday, July 5 at 10 p.m. The display will originate from the Swartz family property on the southeast corner of 135 and Stones Crossing Road, near the Franciscan Health building.

"When I learned that fireworks were canceled across the state, I couldn’t imagine our local families missing out on such an annual tradition. It would almost be like Christmas without Santa Claus,” said Tilson President and CEO, Brent Tilson, in a statement. “This year’s display is about recognizing we are all in this together and celebrating our ongoing independence.”

Ramsey Pyrotechnics, who also puts on the Conner Prairie and Indianapolis Indians displays, will handle the show.

Everyone is encouraged to watch the display from their homes and maintain a safe social distance of at least 6 feet if watching from somewhere else with other spectators.

Last month, the City of Greenwood canceled its annual Freedom Festival out of abundance of caution to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The patriotic community celebration, which draws more than 60,000 people annually, takes place the last Saturday every June and was scheduled for June 27.
