HANCOCK COUNTY, Indiana — Police are investigating after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Hancock County Thursday evening.

The crash, involving a motorcycle and SUV, was reported around 7:30 p.m. April 25 near US 52 and South Creekside Drive, west of New Palestine and less than a mile east of the Marion-Hancock County line.

The motorcycle was traveling west on US 52 toward Marion County when the SUV pulled out in front of it, causing the motorcycle to crash into the driver's side of the SUV, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The motorcyclist, identified as 60-year-old Timothy Bossard, was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was later pronounced dead.

The SUV driver, a 77-year-old Greenfield man, was not seriously injured in the crash. He remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said, noting that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

US 52 was closed for roughly three hours during the on-scene investigation.

The sheriff's office said Bossard was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

"The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all motorcycle drivers to wear helmets for safety," the office said in a statement. "We also remind all drivers to look twice for motorcycles."
