INDIANAPOLIS — The Greater Indianapolis Deaf Club celebrated their first "Noon Year's Eve" event Sunday, 12 hours before it turns midnight.
The Maginity family went to other events like this before and realized there was nothing like them in Indianapolis, so they decided to start it this year.
"I was inspired to host something here. I found out Indianapolis had one, but it was only for hearing children," Anthony Maginity signed. "So, I wanted to host something for the CODA and deaf community."
As some families met for the first time, old friends got to reconnect.
"We went to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., and we haven't seen each other in a long time now, so it's great to see each other again at the deaf club," Patty signed.
For many of the new families in Indianapolis, the deaf club has given them a new home.
"There's a lot of opportunities here for our children, and they are able to thrive here," Amanda signed.
This wasn't just about the party, but showing up for the big Indianapolis deaf community.
"Do not be afraid to approach deaf individuals. We don't bite, we can text and communicate in multiple ways," Kelsey Maginity signed. "Deaf people are always going to be around for years to come."
As the countdown to 2024 gets shorter, GIDC hopes people go into the year taking the time to learn about the ones in their communities.
