GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police is investigating after a Grant County Jail inmate died early Friday.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies at the jail were alerted to an inmate with medical issues around 3:45 a.m. Aug. 30.
The inmate was taken to the medical room, where a doctor was told he was complaining of abdominal problems, but the inmate then became unresponsive, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies performed CPR and the inmate was taken to Marion General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
"In line with our commitment to transparency, Sheriff Garcia has asked the Indiana State Police to conduct a full investigation into this event," a sheriff's office spokesperson said in a statement.
The Grant County Coroner will determine the inmate's cause of death, and the inmate's name will be released once family has been notified.
