GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — If you're a Verizon customer and have an emergency in Grant County today, make sure to text 911 instead of call, as emergency dispatchers in that county are reporting problems with the Verizon cellular network on Friday.
Grant County Central Dispatch reported they were made aware of issues within the Verizon network earlier on Friday. Throughout this afternoon, Grant County dispatch said it appeared that Verizon customers were not able to make calls from their cell phones.
The outage is reportedly affecting customer’s ability to dial 911 from their phones. However, Verizon customers appear to be able to text without issue, according to dispatch.
In the event of an emergency, if you cannot dial 911, Grant County Central Dispatch does receive Text-to-911.
Since this is a Verizon network issue, Grant County Central Dispatch said they do not have any information regarding this outage or its restoration.
13News reached out to Verizon to get more clarification on a possible outage, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
