INDIANAPOLIS — From "GOTA POO" to "cknbut," Hoosiers got creative with the messages they tried to put on their license plates in 2023, but some of them were rejected.

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles released a full list of the personalized license plate (PLP) requests it rejected from Jan. 1 to Dec. 4 last year.

The BMV rejected the majority of these plates due to them being "misleading." Overall, more than 1,000 custom plate requests were denied.

The bureau will also refuse to issue a PLP if it carries a meaning or connotation "offensive to good taste and decency."

Those who have had their request denied will receive a denial letter in the mail. If your plate is denied, you can be refunded for the fee you paid at the time of reservation, or you can submit an alternate message for the plate to be approved.
