INDIANAPOLIS — We're just 45 days away from the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, and we're here with some good Good News!
Tony Kanaan is back.
No, not back in the race car. TK is back to share his expertise in our Indy 500 coverage in May.
"I hope people enjoyed it last year. We're going to make more fun this year. We'll have a lot more insight," Kanaan said.
"This is all good news," 13Sports director Dave Calabro said. "You're working with Kyle Larson, we watched you working with him today. How cool is this?"
"I mean, it's awesome, right?" Kanaan said. "I mean, if you think about it, I look at the opportunity that I got just not to be part of McLaren, but I won the 24 Hours of Daytona with him, and now he's doing the double. He's such a great talent. I just told him, I said, 'Hey, the only way I can win a 500 from now on is with the team, and you're my car this this month, you better give me a ring.'"
"So you're telling me you're not going to come out of retirement?" Calabro asked. "You're not gonna be in a car this year?"
"Well, I am his backup," Kanaan said. "If it rains and gets delayed, the 600 will take priority. We don't want that ... maybe we do, but it's his car, but yeah, I'm his reserve driver."
"Well, we're honored to have you back on Channel 13," Calabro said. "Looking forward to it and all the insight you bring to the sport and to all the viewers. So thank you. And it's gonna be fun, right?"
"I love it," Kanaan said. "I hope you guys enjoy. We'll try to make it as fun as possible."
