INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL draft gets underway Thursday, a night full of good news as players see their dreams come true. The Indianapolis Colts have the 15th pick in the first round of the draft.
13 Sports director Dave Calabro tells us about a local player who has worked a lifetime for this moment.
Early on this spring morning, Tyrone Tracy grinds out another workout on his old high school football field.
"I used to definitely come out here like six in the morning, you know, jump the fence, come out here and train, get ready for the day, and then, I go to school, and they come out and have football practice, so for me to come out here and actually get back to the to the roots of where it all came from, it's a beautiful feeling," Tracy said.
Tracy was a star running back at Decatur Central High School and then became a big deal at Purdue. But he's had his share of challenges along the way that have shaped him.
"Physically, mentally, emotionally, I think the main thing I've done over the years is just stay faithful over, you know, with my relationship with God," Tracy said. "I've built it up over the years. I've had my highs and my lows, but I've stayed rooted."
NFL teams have noticed Tracy's natural talent and work ethic. He's waiting for that big break.
"I think my dream right now is to definitely make a 53-man roster, but I'm also grateful for the opportunity that's at hand," he said. "I'm trying not to look too far ahead. I just try to soak everything in, you know, right here, right now, chasing NFL dreams."
