INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Forget the rain and dreary weather. Davina Branic and her family couldn't be happier today.
It's a day her parents have eagerly awaited for 852 days.
It began not long after Shannon and Matt Branic got a call on Dec. 30, 2017 asking them if they were ready to be foster parents for a 2-day-old baby girl.
They said absolutely and brought her home, but not knowing for how long.
They were quickly smitten, as were their daughters Lily, now 8, and Josie, now 5.
Nearly two-and-half years later, Davina is officially a Branic.
Early Wednesday afternoon, a Hamilton County judge finalized her adoption. Because of the pandemic, the proceedings took place over Zoom with family and friends from as far away as California and Florida tuning in to watch.
"It felt like Christmas morning today," Shannon said.
"It was big, everyone was so energized," Matt said.
The family had initially planned a big yard party, but COVID-19 changed that.
