Esper defends title in St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail Eating Championship, beats Chestnut for 2nd straight year

Geoff Esper ate 11.2 more ounces of shrimp than Joey Chestnut to secure his second consecutive title in the competition.

INDIANAPOLIS — For the second year in a row, Geoff Esper has won the St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail Eating Championship.

Esper, who upset world-renowned champion Joey Chestnut in the competition last year, defended his title in a record-breaking fashion.

Chestnut had to settle for second place in the contest after eating 16 pounds of shrimp cocktail. Esper ate 16 pounds, 11.2 ounces of shrimp cocktail, beating his record of 16 pounds, 6.4 ounces set during last year's competition.

Prior to 2022, Chestnut held a record of eight straight wins in the eating competition. He finished a shocking fourth place last year.
