INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Senator Jean Breaux was laid to rest on Saturday.
Friends, family and fellow lawmakers gathered in downtown Indianapolis to pay their respects.
Breaux served as a senator for District 34 since 2006. She stepped down from her position on March 18 due to health concerns.
Her family told 13News, they hope people remember her legacy and continue to fight her fight.
"Remember what she stood for and advocated for," said Samuel Johnson, Sen. Breaux's cousin. "Those things were very important to her and she was quite direct in that and in her last days she wanted to have people continue to fight what she was fighting for. The fight is not over, and in fact it has barely begun."
