FRANKFORT, Ind — An investigation is underway after a police chase in Clinton County early Tuesday ended in a deadly single-vehicle crash.

According to an Indiana State Police spokesperson, troopers are investigating the incident at the request of the Frankfort Police Department, since the pursuit involved an FPD officer.

ISP's preliminary investigation indicates a Frankfort officer was investigating a report of reckless driving around 2:40 a.m. Aug. 27. The officer saw a Dodge Durango that matched the description of the vehicle in the report and tried to stop it on State Road 28, near Maish Road. ISP said the driver failed to stop and fled eastbound on the highway.

When the pursuit approached County Road 250 East, the SUV veered off the south side of State Road 28, overcorrected and then left the north side of the road before rolling over, the spokesperson said.

One occupant of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP.

A second person in the vehicle was taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis-area hospital. Their condition was not immediately available.
