Former Pike Township Fire Department chief dies

INDIANAPOLIS — The Pike Township Fire Department is mourning the loss of its former leader.

Joe Olofson, who served Pike Township from January 2003 to December 2006, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, according to a statement from the department on social media. He was 84 years old.

In the post, the department said Olofson will be remembered as a "man of the people."

"He was easy to talk to and truly cared about people," the department said. "Joe will be missed by his Pike Fire family."

According to Olofson's obituary, a visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Crown Hill Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
