INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A former IMPD sergeant won't spend a day in prison after pleading guilty to misdemeanor official misconduct.
A judge just handed down a suspended sentence for 55-year-old Charles Butler. The veteran officer resigned from the force in May on the same day of his arrest.
Prosecutors say Butler signed VIN inspection forms for a south side auto dealer without actually looking at the salvaged or wrecked cars. According to police, Butler allegedly received compensation from the business for this service.
He was put on administrative leave last summer and was hoping to retire May 31.
