CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — "Food Drop Friday" is yet another example of Hoosiers helping Hoosiers during these troubling times.
To salute local frontline heroes during the outbreak of COVID-19, locally-owned McFarling Foods is paying a special tribute by delivering free food to medical workers and first responders.
"They're really grateful and appreciative," Jason Acquisto, marketing manager at McFarling Foods, said. "We pull up with all this food, and I think what that shows is that it just really brings out the best in everybody. A lot of people are trying to help out the first responders, and we're happy to do it."
Last week's first "Food Drop Friday" fed the emergency workers at IU Health North Hospital. The second food drop will take place Friday, April 10 at the Carmel Fire Department at 11 a.m. to honor firefighters from six Carmel fire stations.
Kopper Kettle Inn Restaurant —one of McFarling Foods' clients — will provide food packages for the firefighters featuring fried chicken, grilled chicken salad sandwiches, sides, desserts and"kettle korn.
Endangered Species Chocolate, which has been serving Indianapolis for 16 years, is also accelerating the act of giving back with their own food drop-off program.
"We are proud to be able to donate 36,000 bags of our delicious chocolate truffles to our frontline health care workers here in central Indiana, just so we can say 'thank you' and encourage our frontline heroes," Curt Vander Meer, CEO of Endangered Species Chocolate, said.
