Fishers Police and Fire honor good Samaritan for saving teen from car crash

Adam Barr was honored with a Citizen Life Saver Award from both Fishers police and fire departments for saving the life of 17-year-old Jaxon Chiamovoulos.

FISHERS, Ind. — A Fishers man is being honored by first responders for saving the life of a teen.

That teen, Jaxon Chiamovoulos, 17, told 13News he was about a block away from his home when his car "malfunctioned" and he crashed into the side of a home.

The incident happened Aug. 28 in the Sandstone Lakes neighborhood in Fishers, near East 116th Street and Brooks School Road.

Adam Barr was driving by, saw the crash and ran over to help.

"He wasn't moving, so I needed to get over there to make sure he was OK, and then he wasn't OK, so we got him out to make sure he was safe," said Barr.

Seconds later, the car was on fire.

"He (Barr) definitely saved my life because there was no way I was getting out of the car without at least catching on fire because I had about seven seconds before the car was fully in flames," said Chiamovoulos.

"In the fire service, we believe that when you commit yourself to harm's way for another person, it creates a bond that can't be broken and you did that," said Fishers Fire Chief Steve Orusa.

Thursday was also the first time Barr got to officially meet Chiamovoulos.

Chiamovoulos said he will forever be thankful.

"If he (Barr) hadn't been there, I probably wouldn't be here right now or at least I'd be severely injured," said Chiamovoulos.

"It was a lot scarier thinking back to the moment than what happened in the moment," said Barr.
