FISHERS, Ind. — One of central Indiana's largest cities was just named one of the safest cities in America for 2024.
Fishers was named the nation's second safest city by MoneyGeek in its annual analysis of 302 U.S. cities with populations of 100,000 people or more.
Earlier this year, the city also placed fourth in America's Safest Suburbs of 2023 from SmartAsset, with a violent crime rate lower than 84% of the other suburbs analyzed.
“This recognition demonstrates our commitment to strive for the highest standards of quality of life and safety in our community,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said. “As a regional leader in law enforcement, Fishers Police takes protecting and serving to the next level through their collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, community engagement initiatives, and use of smart technology."
The main data point used in the research is crime cost per capita. Fishers had a cost of $296.
“Fishers is at the top of this list because of the proactive work our officers do day in and day out to keep our city safe,” Fishers Chief of Police Ed Gebhart said. “This continued success wouldn’t be possible without the support we receive from our community."
Carmel also rounded out the top 10 list for safest cities in America, with a crime cost per capita of $405.
