INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Friends of the first person in Indiana to die from coronavirus are reaching out for help planning her funeral.

Roberta Shelton passed away Monday at Community Hospital East. At a newsconference at the Indiana Statehouse Monday, health experts said Shelton had an underlying health condition, but died from complications of the COVID-19 virus.

A friend tells Eyewitness News Shelton's fiance is currently at home in quarantine, but did not test positive for the virus.

A GoFundMe account has been created by friends to help Shelton's family pay for her funeral and headstone.

"Everyone knows she helped anyone she could. Now it's our time to help her," the listing read.

Funeral arrangements for Shelton, who was known to friends as "Birdie," are pending.
