Teenager escapes house fire caused by fireworks on Indy's east side

Investigators believe fireworks in an east Indy home are to blame for a fire that burnt most of the house down.

INDIANAPOLIS — Investigators believe fireworks inside of an east Indy home are to blame for a fire that burnt most of the house down.

Around 7:30 p.m. on July 4, Indianapolis Fire Department officials responded to a report of the fire in the 400 block of North Grant Avenue, near Michigan Street and Sherman Drive.

IFD says a teenager was inside of the home when the fire started on the front porch. The teen made it out safely, but one cat died in the blaze and two are still missing.

The department shared these photos from the scene that show the major damage caused to the inside of the house.
