INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters rescued a man trapped in a machine at a manufacturing facility on Indianapolis' near east side Wednesday morning.

Around 9:45 a.m. March 13, Indianapolis Fire Department crews were called to the Max Katz Bag Company in the 200 block of South LaSalle Street, southwest of East Washington Street and South Sherman Drive.

A 26-year-old man "was working near a rolling machine when his foot and ankle got caught between two bars at the bottom of the machine," IFD said in a social media post.

Workers at the plant called 911, and firefighters found the man "alert and oriented but clearly in pain," IFD said.

The firefighters used extrication equipment to spread the bars apart and free the man's leg in about 15 minutes.

The man was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital. No additional information on his condition was provided.

IFD said the company is reviewing how the accident happened.
