INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters pulled a man from an Indianapolis retention pond Monday evening and transported him to a hospital.

It happened around 6 p.m. in the 3600 block of Wingate Court, which is near East 38th Street and German Church Road.

Witnesses told investigators the 36-year-old man and another person were fishing at the pond when the man entered the water to swim and did not resurface. When he did not come back up, bystanders called 911.

The man was reportedly under the surface of the pond for about 15 minutes. Divers located him in less than 10 minutes, 25 feet from the shore in about 12 feet of water.

CPR was performed after the man was pulled from the water. He was transported to Methodist Hospital, though his condition is not known at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.
