INDIANAPOLIS — A tiny pup who bit off a bit more than he could chew when he got his head stuck inside a Mason jar can thank local firefighters firefighters for a rescue!
Indianapolis Fire Department EG41 was notified around noon on Friday at their station that a small dog was running loose with a Mason jar stuck on his head.
The pup was found in a parking lot at 9660 E. Washington St. Firefighters also requested Indianapolis Animal Care and Control to respond to the scene.
"On arrival, the scared dog took off and ran toward a wooded area. Firefighters went after it. Within minutes they were able to corral him and scoop him to safety. Wrapping him in a towel, the firefighters made a quick assessment to see the best route of removal. Keeping the dog calm, they made small twists back and forth to see first if the jar would slide off. Within minutes - they were successful!" a Facebook post recounting the incident said.
Firefighters took the pup back to the station to clean and feed it. One responder is reportedly interested in caring for the dog and giving it a permanent home "provided it is not claimed by an owner", according to the Facebook post.
The male dog is believed to be a chihuahua mix, small in size with no identification. If anyone has information about this dog belonging to someone they are encouraged to reach out to IACS 317-327-1397 or Indy Lost Pet Alert at Indylostpetalert.com.
