4 injured in 3-alarm fire at west Indianapolis apartment complex

The fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. at the Island Club Apartments off of Crawfordsville Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters put out a massive fire at a west Indianapolis apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

Crews responded to the three-alarm fire at the Island Club Apartments, near Interstate 465 and Crawfordsville Road, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Photos shared by the Speedway Fire Department, who assisted at the scene, show significant damage to the top level of at least one apartment building.

The department said the fire is under control, but asked those in the area to stay to the north or south of the entrance to the apartment complex.

Firefighters say four people were injured in the fire. One of those victims was taken to the hospital, possibly in serious condition. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

The other two victims, a civilian and a firefighter, were treated at the scene.

There is no word at this time on what may have caused the fire.

13News has a crew at the scene and will update this story as more details are confirmed.
