INDIANAPOLIS — UPDATE: On Oct. 8, the Indianapolis Fire Department announced that the fires on College and Hamilton avenues have been ruled arsons. In a statement, IFD said investigators "have not yet determined if the two fires are at all connected."
Indianapolis Fire Department crews were busy Sunday night and Monday morning, battling four separate fires across Indianapolis.
In total, seven homes and one restaurant were burned Oct. 6 and 7, and two firefighters were injured while battling the fires.
Sun Shine Breakfast House and Grill fire - Monday, 6:12 a.m.
IFD crews responded to a report of a fire on the roof of Sun Shine Breakfast House and Grill, located at 5116 W. 38th St., near Moller Road on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
When crews arrived, they found flames on the roof and were able to get them under control in 17 minutes.
IFD says the building had working smoke alarms, and there were no injuries reported on the scene.
North College Avenue triple residence fire - Monday, 3:48 a.m.
On the near north side of Indianapolis, a fire spread across there homes in the 2000 block of North College Avenue, just a couple blocks from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
Several crews responded to the fire just before 4 a.m. and battled the blaze and smoke for almost two hours, leaving one firefighter with slight injuries.
IFD believes the main two homes affected were vacant, and another home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Investigators are now working to learn how the fire started.
North College Avenue was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear and investigate the scene.
Hamilton Avenue triple residence fire - Monday, 12:54 a.m.
Several IFD crews responded to multiple reports of fires at three houses in the 400 block of Hamilton Avenue, near Southeastern and South State avenues on the near east side of Indianapolis.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw heavy fire coming from the homes that they believe were vacant.
It took crews about two hours to get the fire under control, leaving one firefighter slightly injured.
IFD said there were no working smoke alarms in the houses, and all three of them were a total loss.
Selago Drive single residence fire - Sunday, 9:36 p.m.
An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that displaced a family and caused significant damage to their home on Indianapolis' southeast side Sunday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the 6300 block of Selago Drive, not far from South Arlington and Troy avenues.
The family told firefighters they heard a loud boom before they smelled smoke and their smoke alarms went off. Thankfully, the family of five and their dog made it out uninjured.
The fire broke out in the garage and spread to the attic, IFD said, causing substantial damage to the home and four cars. By the time firefighters arrived, heavy fire was coming from the house.
Crews brought the fire under control in roughly 25 minutes with an "aggressive attack," the department said.
