FRANKFORT, Ind. — Fire investigators determined a fire in the press box at the football field at Frankfort High School on Halloween was accidental and was caused by an original electrical issue.
The Frankfort Fire Department shared the update Nov. 6 following a thorough investigation by the fire department and NEFCO Insurance investigators.
In a post on social media on Oct. 31, the police department asked people to avoid the area. A photo showed heavy flames.
The post also said the fire was nearly extinguished around 10 p.m. that night.
According to the fire department, the press box will be demolished, with a new press box going in its place.
Nobody was injured.
Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda and Fire Chief Matt Stidham issued the following statement:
"The Community Schools of Frankfort is committed to providing a safe experience for the Frankfort students, staff, and community members when attending events at the football field.
We are thankful for the firefighters’ quick response in handling the fire and that no one was harmed. Additional thanks to the Frankfort Fire Department, NEFCO, and the community for their support and patience as we have responded to this matter."
Frankfort is roughly 50 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis.
