Accidental fire damages popular restaurant on Indianapolis' near southwest side

No injuries were reported.

INDIANAPOLIS — A fire caused damage to a popular restaurant on Indianapolis' near southwest side late Monday night.

Crews responded to Mann's Grill, located at 1214 South Tibbs Ave., near West Morris Street, just before 11 p.m. Dec. 2.

The Wayne Township Fire Department said Tibbs Avenue was closed north and south, between Morris Street and Lambert Street, as firefighters put out the blaze.

The fire was brought under control within 50 minutes.

Wayne Township Fire Marshal Johnny Balding said the fire appears to be accidental.

Balding said most of the damage is in the back of the restaurant by the kitchen, and the front of the restaurant mainly has water damage.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.

One of the co-owners of the restaurant told 13News this is the second time the restaurant caught fire. The last time was 45 years ago.

The Wayne Township Fire Department, Indianapolis Fire Department, Decatur Township Fire Department, Indianapolis EMS, IMPD and Marion County Health Department all responded to the fire.
