A landmark restaurant in eastern Indiana is reopening on Thanksgiving Day five months after being badly damaged in a fire.
Repair and remodeling work began soon after the June fire in downtown Hagerstown wrecked much of the roof and upper floor of Willie & Red's restaurant. The restaurant was known as Welliver's Smorgasbord for 60 years until new owners took it over in 2010.
Restaurant co-owner Penny Wickes tells the Palladium-Item that it has a waiting list for its Thanksgiving Day reservations and that it will open for regular business hours Friday.
Ralph Thalls says he's glad to see the restaurant next to his insurance office reopening and that it's been an important place in the community for decades.
