INDIANAPOLIS — A dog died in a house fire on the east side of Indianapolis Saturday morning.
Around 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 13, IFD crews responded to the 500 block of North Beville Avenue, near East Michigan and North Rural streets, on a report of a house fire, according to a release from the Indianapolis Fire Department.
When crews arrived, they could see heavy fire coming from the house, with 13 IFD units responding.
The fire took nearly an hour to bring under control. IFD said 15 propane tanks were reported inside the residence around 10 minutes after crews arrived. The department requested Indy DPW's help to salt icy areas after firefighters dealt with slick conditions while fighting the fire.
According to IFD, the house had no working smoke alarms, and no other injuries were reported.
The department believes the fire was started accidentally when squatters lit a fire for warmth.
