Lightning may have sparked fire at Brownsburg home

The family was able to safely evacuate, according to the fire department.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — First responders say fire that extensively damaged a Brownsburg home Thursday may have been sparked by lightning.

The fire was reported in the 900 block of Farmington Trail, which is near Green Street and Northfield Drive.

Photos posted on the fire department's Facebook page showed heavy flames and thick smoke billowing from the second floor of the home.

The fire department said the home's residents safely evacuated, and there were no reports of injury.

While a lightning strike is being eyed as a possible cause, the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, the fire department said.

Washington Township/Avon Fire Department assisted at the scene.
