INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — If you're looking for a new pet, the biggest animal adoption event in the state is happening this weekend.
The Indy Mega Adoption Event is June 23-24 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
More than 1,000 dogs and cats will be up for adoption for just $30. All the animals are already spayed or neutered and microchipped. You also will be able to take your new pet home with you the same day.
The event goes on from noon until 6 p.m. both days, but you'll want to get there early, as its not unusual for lines to form outside the South Pavilion where the event is held.
The animals come from more than 20 local shelters that often experience overcrowding. One of those shelters is the Indianapolis Animal Care Services.
If you just can't wait until Saturday, IACS has a special deal going through Friday. Adopt a pet for free from the shelter. Each adoption comes with spay or neuter, vaccinations, virus testing and microchipping.
