INDIANAPOLIS — When you walk through downtown Indianapolis this week, you'll be in a sea of blue and gold.
Starting Wednesday, Oct. 23, more than 70,000 students will be here for the 97th National FFA Convention.
"Fall is my favorite time of year because of the foliage, colors, the beauty and, of course, the blue jackets," Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch said.
Students will take part in competitions, days of services and even leadership classes where they can meet employers from all over the country. It's not just the convention growing in size but the organization as a whole. Leaders told 13News this year, they have officially hit 1 million members nationwide.
"They are engaging each day and preparing themselves as leaders, growing personally and ultimately being set up for career success in the industry of agriculture," National FFA Organization and Foundation CEO Scott Stump said.
Western Region VP Emily Gossett said they wanted to make this year's convention unique for the new members, so they are highlighting tech companies who have a hand in agriculture.
"We are sending the next generation of agriculturists into the world, so seeing the industry is so helpful for our students," Gossett said.
While this will be a farewell for Gossett and her fellow officers, she said she's excited to see the future shine through this convention.
"Getting to see this is what our organization has come to and getting to know it will continue to grow for years is one of the most spectacular feelings of being in this organization," Gossett said.
The convention runs through Saturday, Oct. 26. For this week's schedule, you can visit this website.
