Family of woman murdered on White River Park trail still looking for answers

November 12, 2018 marks six years since the murder of a woman walking her dogs near the IUPUI campus at night.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – November 12, 2018 marks six years since the murder of a woman walking her dogs near the IUPUI campus at night.

"When this day rolls around, that’s the day she got murdered. And for my family...we just go back to how loving and caring that she was we just knew it wasn’t time for her to leave us," said Keith Walker about his sister.

Sherese Walker Bingham was 51 when she was shot to death with her own gun on the White River State Park walking path at New York Street on the IUPUI campus.

Every November 12, her brother Keith and other friends and family mark her murder at that location.

“Yeah that pain is still there," said Walker. "It will never go away. But the evil thoughts that I had, they're gone."

Replaced by the strong drive to find the killer. He pleads with anybody on the trail that night: “you had to see somebody walk up to her. And say something to her.”

Sometime after the killing, police arrested Sherese’s husband. But the charges were later dropped when prosecutor‘s said their case needed to be stronger. However, the Walkers still suspect him.

Sherese was out walking her two German Shepherds that night she was killed. The dogs were very protective of her. They would not have allowed anyone to get within point blank range of her. Unless it was someone they knew and trusted.

In fact, that night of the shooting they would not even let the medics near her.

Walker, a deacon at his church on the eastside, says the hate is gone from him.

"Bring this to a close. Let’s find out why this happened," said Walker. "Get some justice over it. So both families can move on."

The family asks anybody with information call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS or Indiana State Police.

They especially credit the work of the State Police detective who has been on this case from the start, keeping them up to date and in the loop.
