INDIANAPOLIS — Red and black balloons filled the sky near the northwest side of Indianapolis Saturday night as family and friends gathered to honor the victim of a hit-and-run crash.
Dominque "Domi" Berryhill was at Riverside Park, a place she always went to spend time with friends, on Sunday night. Police said the 32-year-old was standing next to a car talking to her friends when someone was speeding and fatally struck her.
"Dominique was one of the ones that just stood out from a lot of us," Berryhill's aunt Temika Lawrence said.
Lawrence said hearing the news last week shocked her.
"I had just got home from work, and I don't know, I just dropped the phone and called my daughter and everybody just started screaming and we came up to the site and saw her laying here," Lawrence said.
Family said Berryhill was always in such a good mood and was the life of the party. She would have celebrated her next birthday in just a couple of weeks.
Loved ones went to the spot where Berryhill died to lay flowers, balloons and photos down in her honor.
They are pleading to the person who did this to come forward.
"Just have a heart and turn yourself in so justice can be served," Lawrence said.
Berryhill was a mom, an aunt and a niece. She leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter and a large extended family.
Now, her family is just trying to keep her memory alive and hope justice is served.
IMPD is asking anyone with information on the driver who hit Berryhill to come forward and talk with detectives. Tips can also be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
