Eastern Hancock HS senior killed, Greenfield-Central HS grad critically injured in single-car crash

A 17-year-old girl was killed and an 18-year-old man was critically injured in the afternoon crash in Greenfield.

GREENFIELD, Ind. — A senior student at Eastern Hancock High School died Sunday afternoon after a single-car crash in Greenfield.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, around 2:40 p.m. on Nov. 26, officers were called to the area of County Road 300 North and County Road 100 West in Greenfield on a report of a car crash.

Officers discovered a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck with a male driver and female passenger inside. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male driver was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.

The driver of the truck was identified as 18-year-old Cody Mastin, of Greenfield. Police said Mastin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. According to the release from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Mastin had graduated from Greenfield-Central High School last year and was attending college out of town.

The passenger, identified as 17-year-old Lindsay Locker, was also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. A resident of Knightstown, Locker was due to graduate this school year.

Police said evidence at the scene leads officers to believe the pickup hydroplaned and went off the road. When Mastin over-corrected, the truck slammed into two trees before coming to a stop.

Both Eastern Hancock and Greenfield-Central high schools have been notified of the crash and will be offering counseling services to students.

Eastern Hancock Schools released the following statement Monday:
