East Indianapolis home extensively damaged when tree topples in gusty winds

No one was injured, but Dejuane Golden's family was forced to temporarily vacate the home.

INDIANAPOLIS — Remnants of Hurricane Helene quickly moved north Friday, bringing heaving rain and powerful winds and, unfortunately, damage to parts of Indiana.

An east Indianapolis home was extensively damaged when wind brought down part of tree.

Dejuane Golden and his partner were emotional as they waited in their car for the power company to stop by their home near East 42nd Street and North Arlington Avenue. A tree crashed through their roof amid Friday's gusty and sustained strong winds. Golden told 13News he was trying to figure out what to do next.

He said it happened quickly. He had just brought the dog inside when the tree fell on the roof. Golden said it sounded like thunder.

He soon found the impact was major. They covered the roof with tarps, hoping to protect the rest of their belongings inside.

Golden said the home belongs to his partner — her childhood residence that her parents left to her after they passed away.

The good news, Golden said, is no one was injured. They're focused on getting the home repaired soon so they can come back home.
