INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – There is constant work going on at The Mission as they prepare for the annual fundraiser.
While trucks are loaded for the event, upstairs Adam Baretta mans the computer and phones taking in donations.
"It's a lot of stuff everyday, it never stops. It's a blessing to see how generous the community is," said Baretta.
Adam knows how important those funds are.
Just two and a half years ago he found himself addicted to drugs and other bad choices, with no where to turn.
"I was searching for things apart from God to make me happy," said Baretta. "I came to the realization there is no such thing."
Adam was about to give up and needed a way out.
"I just came to the end of myself and got on my knees and prayed and fought like a man. I prayed this was the answer to that prayer," said Baretta. "Everyday its not the place, its the people here that make the difference. Everyday I see that prayer answered through this place and these people."
Adam completed the program. He got a full time job and became a servant leader.
He helps others now, as they try to break their cycle of bad choices.
Adam is back on the streets but this time he's finally running in the right direction.
He will race in the Drumstick Dash Thursday.
"Running reminds me that life is not a sprint, it's a marathon," said Baretta. "It keeps going so we run together. We do it as a community and its an example of what God does for us."
The mission gave him a purpose and direction again.
Adam reminds all of us that being thankful should be a year-long commitment.
"If you keep that as the center and God at the center, everything else lines up and you had an attitude of gratitude, you have appreciation for the small things. Keeping that in mind everyday is a blessing," said Baretta.
