INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Police are investigating after a traffic stop led to a crash on the city's northeast side.
Just after 7:30 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to the intersection of 25th Street and Keystone Avenue for reports of a person trapped in their vehicle due to a crash.
IFD says a Black Monte Carlo hit another car in the intersection and then careened into a pole, which threw the driver over to the passenger side where he became entrapped.
IFD was able to extract the driver within 12 minutes.
The driver was transported to Eskenazi in serious condition.
The driver of the second vehicle experienced only front end damage and was transported to Methodist in good condition.
Police say the crash was the result of a traffic stop where the driver fled. The traffic stop took place at 27th and Keystone where police say that just as the officer got out of his vehicle, the driver fled the scene.
The officer followed the vehicle to the scene of the crash, where authorities located a large amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Police say the driver will be facing charges for possession of marijuana and fleeing police.
