INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The family of Dreasjon Reed spoke out publicly Tuesday morning, six days after the 21-year-old was shot and killed by police at 62nd Street and Michigan Road.
Reed’s mother and father went back to the scene to remember their son, but also to demand answers from law enforcement.
“It’s not right. We're going to fight for him I swear to god it is just not right,” said Reed’s father Jamie Reed. “We need to fight for this. We don’t need to let this fade. We need to all fight,” Reed added.
Reed died last week after being shot by an IMPD officer.
It happened on Facebook Live when Reed was fleeing police, stopped and then got out of the car.
Investigators say he pulled a gun on an officer, his family believes he was running away.
“You have a right to ask questions about what happened last week. You have a right to demand answers for what happened last week. The way we do that is in the courtroom,” said family attorney Fatima Johnson.
Johnson acknowledges that Reed may have had a firearm, but says he had a legal concealed carry permit. She said they are currently weighing their legal options.
