INDIANAPOLIS — Thousands of swimming fans are descending on downtown Indianapolis for the U.S. Swimming Team Trials starting this weekend — and it's going to be a hot one.
Despite forecast temperatures in the 90s through the week, there is a way to beat the heat as you make your way to Lucas Oil Stadium and related events celebrating the trials.
Indianapolis has more hotel rooms connected through enclosed skywalks than any other city in the U.S. That means guests at nearly a dozen hotels downtown can get to Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center without having to go outside.
Those hotels include:
- JW Marriott
- Indy Marriott
- The Westin Indianapolis
- Hyatt Regency Indianapolis
- Omni Severin Hotel
- Embassy Suites Indianapolis Downtown
- Crown Plaza Indianapolis
- Courtyard, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites
- Le Meridien Indianapolis
You can take a look at this interactive map below to see if you're staying on a property connected to the skywalk.
Be aware, during the NBA All-Star Weekend in February, some of the skywalks and tunnels were restricted to those with credentials only.
The city shared this map with visitors during NBA All-Star Weekend, pointing out the access points for the skywalk:
A spokesperson with the Indiana Convention Center shared the schedules for the skywalks on the days of the U.S. Swimming Team Trials.
But even if the heat is a bit overwhelming, you're not going to want to spend all your time downtown inside.
One of the popular areas will be Georgia Street for “USA Swimming Live.”
The 10-day fan event kicks off on June 14 with the Starting Block Party from 5-9:30 p.m. and then runs through the last day of the trials on June 23. It will run from 1-7 p.m. The free event includes live musical performances, food, drinks and more.
The Swim Trials start Saturday, June 15 and run through Sunday, June 23. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here through USA Swimming. There are session, single-day and multi-day tickets available.
