INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Several WTHR viewers caught a breathtaking phenomenon on camera last night, and they were asking us what it was.
We checked in with meteorologists Sean Ash, who believes the stunning blue streak punctuating the evening sky Wednesday evening was a shadow from downstream clouds.
Since the photos were being taken looking toward the sun and not away from it, we don't believe these were anticrepuscular rays - although it's a similar effect.
Sean explains: "It’s merely a shadow being created from a cloud between the setting sun and the photographer. It’s actually closer to a crepuscular ray than anti considering the photo direction."
