Coroner identifies 29-year-old man killed in shooting on Indy's near west side

The incident was reported around 12:20 p.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of West McCarty Street, near I-70 and South Belmont Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD officers are conducting a homicide investigation on the near west side of Indianapolis Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of a death investigation at a home in the 2200 block of West McCarty Street, near Interstate 70 and South Belmont Avenue, around 12:20 p.m. on July 25.

When officers arrived, they found a man dead who had apparently been shot. The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 29-year-old Davonte Nix.

Detectives are working to determine how long Nix had been dead and what might have led up to the incident.
