Experienced dog groomer killed in dog attack while house-sitting on Indy's west side

The incident happened in the 600 block of Olin Avenue, near Holt Road and West Michigan Street, around 6:15 p.m. Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman is dead after being killed by at least one dog in a neighborhood on Indianapolis' west side Friday evening.

Police were called to a home in the 600 block of North Olin Avenue, near Holt Road and West Michigan Street, around 6:15 p.m. Aug. 2.

Officers arrived and found a woman who had been bitten by at least one dog. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 60-year-old Kimberly A. Williams.

A friend told 13News that Williams worked as a dog groomer for 40 years, making it hard for everyone who knew her to understand why she was attacked in the backyard.

Based on a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the woman was dog-sitting two dogs for a friend who was in the hospital when at least one of the dogs attacked her.

Friends of the woman told 13News that she had just given the dogs a bath before she was attacked.

After the attack, Indianapolis Animal Care Services took custody of the dogs, named Cracker and Cookie. A spokesperson with Animal Control confirmed to 13News that the dogs, who were mixed breeds, were put down.

Williams' family said the same dogs were reported to be violent in the past. They said the man once instructed the dogs to attack a person in the past.
