DANVILLE, Ind. — A father and his daughter were found dead in a house fire Thursday morning in Danville.
Fire Chief Rick Duncan said the fire was reported shortly before 6 a.m. April 18 at a home in the 1200 block of Cartersburg Road, near West Lincoln Street.
Firefighters arrived and found a man and a woman dead in the home.
"Crews arrived on scene and found a heavily-involved house fire. During the course of search and rescue, they did find two victims. Both are deceased," Duncan said.
The man was later identified as 79-year-old Spencer Gibbs, of Danville. The coroner said DNA confirmation from Indiana State Police identified the woman as 41-year-old Megan Edwards, of Danville, who was Gibbs' daughter.
Two cats were also found dead.
Duncan said the home is located in a heavily-wooded area about 250 yards from the roadway.
"The reason why you see all the fire trucks is that's a no-hydrated area, so most of those fire trucks are tankers where we have to shuttle in the water. There's no hydrant back there," Duncan said.
Duncan said fire investigators have not yet determined a cause or origin for the fire, and the department is working with the Indiana State Fire Marshal on the investigation.
